This playground stands out for how different it is, and it proved a fun place to play, even on a chilly early spring day.
The playground is supposed to have foam blocks for kids to build things with. Either these were all stolen or only come out on warm summer days. Not to worry, the sandpit and the other features were just as fun to play with anyway.
The big plastic slide was fun, in part because it has long ramps to access it. Our toddler definitely enjoyed this. There is a large sandy play area which also proved fun. Under the ramps are places kids like to hide.
In the middle of the playground is a little tower and platform with stairs. It was a great spot to observe the whole playground and keep an eye on the kids.
There are some weird features like the pipes for listening and making sounds.
This playground isn't an ordinary place to play, and its unique features are probably worth a visit at least once. Going off-season or too late in the probably means some of the more interesting components like the foam building blocks aren't available.
The playground is designed by starchitect David Rockwell, as a bro-bono project. The playground was funded by the New York City Economic Development Corporation.
