Playground Papa's Review

This big patch of green space in Bed-Stuy was a nice respite on our walk home. It could probably be nicer with a little effort.

We first stopped at Caroline's Donuts to fortify ourselves with a snack, a gourmet donut shop just a few bocks to the north, before letting our toddler loose here. The tables in the playground offered a great place to chow down on the gourmet donuts.

The playground equipment was in pretty good shape and offered a variety of activities. The shade screens on the towers could definitely be useful in the height of summer, although there are few trees in the main area and I suspect these limited amount of shade would not really be enough.

Our toddler found enough to keep him entertained for a bit, but eventually ran off into the open pavement area and then the open grassy field. Ultimately he lost interest in the playground equipment and we decided it was time to head home.

The playground could have had better maintenance with grass growing between the rubber tiles in places. Part of the park also had a large grassy area that was totally unkempt and maybe a bit dangerous for a toddler to run around in–sort of a wasted bit of greenspace in the city. Overall it seemed like a little more effort could be put into keeping this playground in good working order.

I did really like the weirdo sculptures used in the water feature. The water had been turned off when we were there, but assuming they work, it seems like they would be fun to play in.
