Playground Papa's Review

A large playground on the West End of Provincetown, there are a lot of options for different styles of play.

The playground is a bit out of the way and it's located several blocks off of Commercial Street. It's not the sort of playground you are likely to come across by accident, but it is worth the search. (Its next to a basketball court that had controversially been used for pickle ball, but as of last summer, pickle ball was banned from the courts).

We sought this one out in the middle of winter break and the chilly day turned into a chilly day with freezing rain and ice so we didn't end up staying long.

This has a nice nautical theme to some of the pieces of equipment – not that surprising since it's on the tip of Cape Cod. The main climbing equipment is similar to the pieces we find in Brooklyn and around the city.

The one drawback here is the entire playground is one giant sandpit, although this is due to be paved over with rubber. We found it was pretty much impossible to get out of here without some sand play, even in the rain. That made for a very messy toddler.

Playtime was cut short by the icy rain, but we're definitely intending to return when the weather is nicer.

About the Playground

The playground was renovated in 2010 based on donations from Robert Duffy, a co-founder of Marc Jacobs.

Also known as the Nickerson Street playground.
