A large playground near the bandshell in Prospect Park, it was, as expected, crowded on a recent spring Saturday.
About half the playground was closed off owning to the ongoing renovations, but even so there was a lot of climbing equipment. It was a big space, and there were a lot of kids running around here. The elevated platforms had a lot of different pathways connecting each part of the playground. The design proved a lot of fun to play, but it did make it more difficult to keep track of our toddler.
The concrete around the playground has music notes embedded into it, and our toddler thought these were great. He insisted on taking pictures of them.
Obviously one of the best uses of this playground is during the summer concerts. Even before having children, I had long known there was a playground here and people would entertain their kids here during concerts.
Other than having a lot of climbing area, this playground has a pretty standard set of equipment. It's not especially unique other than that its in the park and near the bandshell. It's pretty accessible from the street, unlike Third Street Playground which is hidden away in the park.
I would say we would definitely come back here, but there are other playgrounds with better subway access in the park. Still, it's pretty good and I would love to see what happens when they finish the renovations.
The playground is currently being partially renovated. It was scheduled to be completed in 2021.
