There are some beautiful trees in this playground but notmuch shade. Luckily the benches do tend to get a bit but less so for theclimbing equipment.
I was surprised to find a changing table in the bathrooms, and these are new and in good condition by comparison to many parks.
The equipment is a bit boring here. Standard climbing sets for toddlers and older kids with platforms, ladders and slides but nothing especially noteworthy. It’s a great workhorse playground but not with going out of the way for.
There’s a classic tic tac toe game and twisting slide.
The water feature doesn’t appear to be in working order. Overall, the park isn’t well maintained. Grass is uncut and growing out of every hole. Weeds are growing in the cracks around the rubber mats, and the bench paint is peeling.
The city first acquired the land for the playground in 1925. For years, the waterfront lots along Commercial Street and West Street were abanonded making this playground particularly remote.
