A simple playground in the middle of a state park, it was a small destination for us to walk to while hiking through the trails.
The park has some beautiful trails cut through thick forest. Since the property was once a utopia commune, there are a number of historic buildings on one end of the property. The boat ramp and other recreation spaces are on the opposite side with hiking trails connecting them. We walked to the playground and back.
The thing about Florida is even in winter it's hot. There was some shade around this playground, but even so it was hotter than we wanted it to be. This was especially true of the slides that baked in the sun – they were hot to the touch.
Our toddler wasn't really too excited to play after he walked most of the trail by himself. He mostly wanted a snack and then to take a nap.
We did see some fun wildlife on the trails like turtles.
The Koreshan Unity was a cult in the 19th century, one of the many communal utopian groups of the period. The celibate community eventually failed because celibacy makes it difficult to produce new members. Eventually the state of Florida converted the property to a state park.
