Herbert Von King Park is a little green emerald, filled with tall, old trees, and two playgrounds on either side of the Amphitheatre.
Both of these well-shaded playgrounds are on the older side. The primary emphasis is on the climbing structures which have stairs and slides and fire poles.
The older kids' playground also is next to basketball courts.
Since the park has barbeque grills and allows grilling, also near the playgrounds, there are a lot of children's birthdays. There have been parties each time we've been here, usually on the toddler's side.
On the toddler side there is a concrete tiger, which of course attracted the attention of our toddler, although he struggled to ride it. The toddler section is much like the one for older children, but scaled down – stairs, ladders, slides.
These are definitely older designs and lack a lot of the sensory equipment of newer playgrounds, but also there aren't any of those weird rope climbing things.
This is a great park, and not necessarily even for the playgrounds. They are a nice bonus, and a great way to entertain smaller kids during shows the Amphitheatre, but probably not worth going out of the way to visit – but the park overall is.
One of the first public parks in Brooklyn, its named for Herbert Von King, a local community leader who died in 1985.
