A small neighborhood playground just off Commercial Street in the East End, it's been a regular stop when we're in town.
This tiny playground is great for toddlers. It's a bit out of the way, several blocks east of the main retail district, but we always get a chance to stop at East End Books on the walk. We also like walking here because Provincetown is relatively small, and there aren't many opportunities for a solid long Brooklyn-style walk out on the cape (at least not while pushing a stroller).
The playground is small, but it's always been entertaining for our toddler. He enjoys the slide and climbing structure. The area is also well shaded.
Because the site is a bit out of the way, most of the people we encounter here are local full-time residents. We recently learned Provincetown offers residents free daycare from eight weeks on – a lot better than Eric Adams's failure to make free 3K universal.
There is just enough shade here to hide out from the sun, but the middle of the day it still gets hot. The East End Market across the street has some great sandwiches, and the picnic tables in the playground area can be put to use.
Overall, this is a great neighborhood playground and does a great job given its tiny size.
There is little information on who Mildred Greensfelder was but this blogger found a reference in Provincetown: From Pilgrim Landing to Gay Resort, that she was an outspoken advocate for diversity and inclusion in the mid-20th century.
